Richard L. Allen, a former Partner and current Of Counsel in KHL's Miami office, is a highly seasoned and skilled trial attorney with a practice focused on commercial and real estate disputes. He represents clients in a wide range of matters, including business partnership disputes, complex commercial matters, commercial real estate litigation, class actions and insurance coverage claims. He represents both Plaintiffs and Defendants, from Fortune 100 companies to sole business owners and clients, in cases in State and Federal courts, arbitration matters, and appeals.

Richard often serves as an expert witness on issues of legal malpractice, ethics, and civil procedure, and has been appointed by the Eleventh Judicial Circuit in Miami-Dade County to serve as a Receiver and Special Magistrate. In addition to his role as a practicing lawyer, he was an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Miami from 1988 to 2023, teaching advanced civil procedure, professional responsibility, and pre-trial practice.

Richard's successful career, spanning nearly 50 years with some cases resulting in awards and settlements in excess of $1 billion, has enabled him to fulfill his passion of advocating for others and to enforce the rights of clients in need of assistance. He has always loved helping others, even as a young man, where he took his pledge as an Eagle Scout very seriously.

Prior to joining KHL Law, Richard founded his own law firm with a partner in 1984 and grew the firm to over 20 lawyers. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami in 1979, where he served on the Law Review as editor and author. He received his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Connecticut College in 1976, where he also served as President of the Student Government. Richard is admitted to practice in Florida state courts, as well as the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Richard is Martindale Hubbell "AV Peer Review Rated" and has repeatedly been recognized by The South Florida Legal Guide as a "Top Lawyer" in the areas of Commercial Litigation and Appeals. He is a member and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for Jewish Adoption and Family Care Options (JAFCO), an organization which honored him with its prestigious Jacobs Ladder award, recognizing his contributions assisting abused and neglected children throughout South Florida. Additionally, Richard previously served as a member and chairman of a Florida Bar Grievance Committee, presiding over investigations and hearings in matters where lawyers were accused of wrong-doing. He has also been a guest lecturer at the Florida State University College of Law.
